Great Voice, Tone, and delivery. I love her but I know I am not the only one. She is just at a wonderful beginning of something that will bring the world more enjoyable moments in the future. I am glad I am here with her in the same place.

Come on Lizz, we want you in Paris !!!

8/11/05 10:53 PM (GMT-08:00), by French little guy

A friend of mine made me discover Lizz's talent. The first time I heard that magic and so distinctive voice, I fell in love. I had never heard about Lizz Wright, and actually, in France, only few youg people appreciate that kind of jazzy music. I wish I could attend one of your concerts, Lizz, 'cause it must be delighting to hear you "live". You're amazingly gracefull !!! (to all the people who will read this text : excuse my bad english, I'm currently trying to improve it).

Boy, i've always believed that God touches certain souls and sends them down to aid us on our life journeys. With hearing 30 seconds of a song, and by that first tear that fell from my eye,I knew that Lizz was one of those angels. I thank you Lizz for your decision to bless us with your gift and I thank God for the creation of you!

A beauty and songbird

2/6/05 1:08 AM (GMT-08:00), by israelg

I'm late learning about Liz and I regret that. Just want to say that she is exquisitely beautiful, regal and an incredible singer. It's so great to see a black female performer embracing her natural beautiful looks. Liz has an aura of power, sensuality, beauty and confidence. No sex, high tech or weaves needed to promote her.

Great CD!

What a great joy to have such a masterfully produced CD! Lizz is a great talent - what a voice! - and the CD is so lovely and warm and intimate... It really has such a close, live sound to it. A very welcome addition to my collection.

unforgettable

7/30/04 3:10 PM (GMT-08:00), by Jean Marc Grosdemouge

Stunning Album

NOT SINCE ANITA BAKER HAVE I HEARD SUCH A SILKLY CONTRALTO. HONESTLY, I HAD NEVER HEARD OF HER UNTIL JUST THIS MOMENT. I KNEW I HAD TO HAVE THE CD AFTER THE FIRST 4 BARS OF 'SALT'. A TRULY GREAT TALENT THAT I WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT.

MY SONG IS RESTORED

4/6/04 3:29 PM (GMT-08:00), by Paulie

I heard Liz's CD for the first time two days ago (04/04/2004). It was then that I suspended all of my ambient concerns and washed myself with Liz's mellifluous vocals and pelting lyrics. The very next day, in the local paper, I saw her scheduled appearance at one of DC's jazz venues. So, through the cold and tired, I made my way to see her. I have NEVER been so moved by a vocalist. She struck something in me that I have not felt since my formative years, when first discovering the power of music. This night, as I sat there blanketed under the currents of her warming voice, I just reflected on hope. By the time she had completed the title track, "Salt", everybody's hands were engaged in thunderous applause except mine. Mine were cupped, used as a makeshift web to net my drooping head and catch my tears, tears that produced a salt that added flavor to my dreary situation. I was reminded, as the song says, "...just like the salt that's in the stew, it's all a part of you

SALT ON THE WOUND

7/18/03 1:44 PM (GMT-08:00), by Dwayne1124

SOMETIMES SALT IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU NEED TO PLACE ON A WOUND. COMING FROM A PLACE WHERE THE SOUL CAN BE EMPTY, LIZZ WRIGHT HAS FOUND A WAY TO FILL IT. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO STOP LISTENING TO "BLUE ROSE" THE HAUNTING MELODY HAS LIFTED MY SPIRIT AND AWAKENED MY HEART...

Superb

6/19/03 7:35 PM (GMT-08:00), by tmcfadden

I have only today found out about this new artist and I am intrigued, enthralled and enraptured by her. How did I miss her? She is achingly beautiful - body and soul. There is a depth here that harkens back to Verve vocalists of old. I am immediately reminded of Abbey Lincoln - soulful and rich with an empathy for each word, each phrase, each inflection of a song. No cabaret schlock here and no vacuous gen-X irreverence. This child has been here before. Her physical image is one of withery, fragile innocence - until she opens her mouth. It is at that point that the rich old soul who has known the pain of loves lost, passions unfulfilled, blood and sawdust rolls out of her as smoothly as a tear down a young face. Another quality reminiscent of Abbey is her uncanny maturity in choosing when to sing sparingly - using silence as an instrument - and when to cut loose and go gutbucket loud. She shows no fear of either choice and she always chooses well. I am in love.

SALT is Sweet

6/14/03 10:46 AM (GMT-08:00), by ilenepeterson

Move over Norah Jones, here is a real jazz vocal pro. I am always on the look out for new vocalists, especially those with real soul. Lizz Wright is IT! I picked up on her on the Listening Station at my local Tower Records, intrigued by the cover photo and title. She gives a refreshing new slant to "Open Your Eyes" and her own songs convey a spiritual soulfulness far beyond her young age. Go far Lizz! And please consider adding the NW to your touring schedule.

Enchanting Girl and Her Voice

6/13/03 9:30 PM (GMT-08:00), by dreamvocals

I've been lucky enough to have been following Lizz since her debut last Summer. Her intro and sweet interview on our local jazz station, KKJZ by my favorite DJ, AC, had me hooked. I then saw her two nights in a row at the lovely open-air forum California Plaza where the audience didn't want her shows to end, and I don't think Lizz did either. When I heard she was on Joe Sample's The Pecan Tree, I wore new grooves into the two tracks on which she sings. I then saw her at The Cerritos Performing Arts Center and sat quietly, like every other adult there, although we must've looked like children, jaws dropped in awe, with our most favorite cartoon character come-to-life-before us. Thee most enchanting, enthralling, powerful, soulful, peaceful, moving & loving girl and her beautiful voice--that's Lizz. Sign me, a lover of dreamvocals. cjk

SALT

6/8/03 8:10 AM (GMT-08:00), by Loring

While browsing the music section at Barnes and Noble, I was drawn to Ms. Wright's cd cover and decidied to listen. And listen I did. As I listened to the second track, SALT, I was unable to stand still. My spirit was being touched by the power of the lyrics and of course Ms. Wright's voice. Needless, to say, I purchased the cd and played it as I drove home. Once home, I sat in the car and listened. Standout tracks include, Salt, As Soon As I Get Home, Fire. If you're looking for mature lyrics and powerful singing....then look no further.

Salt to the bone!

6/3/03 2:47 PM (GMT-08:00), by sned2

Her CD was being played at the Shrine of the Black Madonna in Texas and when I heard it with one of my girlfriends we were both immediately captivated by her voice. It struck me to the bone. Her voice invokes emotion within you. We are missing that sort of feeling in our singers today. We were left speechless. We inquired with the staff as to where we could pick up her CD and they were glad to share. Once we finished at the Shrine we went directly to the music store, purchased the CD and listened to it in its entirety all the way home. AMAZING and GIFTED!

Having had a pinch of "Salt"...

6/3/03 1:39 PM (GMT-08:00), by phoenix

I must say, I desire more. The album's title song "Salt" is the only flavor I have experienced thus far and let me tell you... that song took me home - to that place where I am most at peace. Provokative yet soothing, Ms. Wright's sultry voice is truly one to be respected. I am looking forward to her singing her way into the ranks of the Women of Jazz. The CD will become a part of my collection this evening.

Raw Donwnhome Sophisticated Talent

6/2/03 7:13 AM (GMT-08:00), by KenyaKaye

I heard this cd at a listening station in Virgin Megastore in Westbury, NY. Rarely do I come across a CD that I love the first three tracks. This one I purhcased and ran home to visit the site to send emails to everyone to purchase. I describe her as a hybrid of Cassandra Wilson, Dianne Reeves and Lalah Hathaway. It's Southern charm with a dash of sophistication and a pinch of grandma's wisdom. It doesn't hurt that see presented a beautiful rendition from my favorite musical. I have put every concert date within a four hour drive into my Palm Pilot. Verve Records, please put the promotion and marketing to get her voice and name out there. This is a talent that crosses economic, social, age and status levels. She has a message that needs to be heard by her peers for encouragement in a world of non-singing pop acts of her age that don't compare to her pinkie finger in talent. Do right by Miss Wright!

Incredible

5/30/03 4:36 PM (GMT-08:00), by Kwiz

Let me start by saying I love hip hop. I live it, and make my living from it. I also expose myself to other genres of music as well, and saw Lizz Wright's cd available on Apple's new iMusic store. I listened to a couple of sample's, and immediatley purchased the album. Her album stay's in heavy rotation in my truck. If you are reading this Lizz, I'm converting some heavy hip hop heads for you baby......lol Your vocal tone, your vibe, your songs are the truth. Can't wait to hear you live...........God blessed us with your gift..........May God continue to bless you.

Pure Minisrty, Plain and Simple

5/29/03 11:09 PM (GMT-08:00), by artsong28

I enjoyed the Mary Lou Williams Women in Jazz Festival held in Washington, DC at the Kennedy Center, but Lizz Wright was by far the most impressive, and memorable. She poured out "Salt" and there weren't too many dry eyes. She was articulate, poised, and each soulful song just took the audience higher. All around me I heard, "Oh my God","How moving", She's HOW old? Strangers were sharing during intermission just how much Ms. Wright touched them. The standing ovation wasn't just a polite one. We wanted to hear more! People flocked to the product table only to find we had to wait for the 13th to come like every one else. I picked up 2 of the 3 available at Sam Goody, Pentagon City and urged the customer browsing next to me not to leave the store without it. Lizz really sings. No studio tricks, no backstage magic. When I played my CD I was at the Kennedy Center all over again. Buy it, everyone, and pick up one for a friend.Anyone need a little en

There are artists upon first hearing that you know are destined to be stars. I bought this CD on a whim this Tuesday and was totally blown away by it. I really love all the songs but my favorites are "Soon as I get home", "Fire", "Goodbye", "Blue Rose". If you love the work of Sade, Norah Jones, you'll love this as well. For those looking to find a major new talent, look no further than Lizz Wright......

Thank you Lizz for this beautiful addition to our world of music. This album is a testament of faith and perserverance and will serve as an inspiration to me and many others. We support you here in Atlanta and I can't wait for your return to Churchill Grounds! (maybe one day). Don't sleep on this enormous talent...so graceful, humble and authentic, Lizz Wright is truly a gift to all.

First off, let me say that I NEVER write reviews on cd's, everyone has different tastes and just because I like something, doesn't mean that you should too, but that was before hearing "Salt" by Lizz Wright, bottom line...I was totally BLOWN AWAY! Heard her for the first time on Joe Sample's "Pecan Tree", and have been waiting ever since for her solo release...All I can say is WHEW!! The control...soulfulness...and maturity she displays...not to mention the way she interprets the songs of others. And did I mention HER songwriting ability? :-) Truly amazing, you'd SWEAR she was in her late 30's or early 40's....NOT in her early 20's! Arguably the best vocalist I have heard in a LONG time! You owe it to yourself to "at least" listen!

I met Lizz in Toronto in January, and have since heard her in New York and Chicago -- such a beautiful, gracious young woman! I received the cd (finally!) a few days ago, and at that moment I had a house full of sleeping people - so I went to my car and just sat, LISTENED, and cried at the depth of her gorgeous voice and soul. More, Lizz ---- we need and want MORE!

I would hear "You Can Fly, Open Your Eyes on WHUR in Washington, DC often. I sat in my car and waited for them to announce who this artist was. I could not wait to purchase this CD on 05/13/03. I did not even have to tell the guy in the record store why I was there because he knew from my frequent visits to listen to his promo CD. WOW! This is wonderful. I look forward to hearing more from you Lizz.... You Can Fly! Stay true 2 yourself.

The stores open at 10am on 5/13 and by 10:01am I will be listening to Lizz's CD. She is HOTTTTT!! Keep ya head, my sista and stay strong!! You go girl!!!

LIZZ WRIGHT IS THE SALT OF JAZZ... TODAY AND FOREVER

5/9/03 9:30 AM (GMT-08:00), by CAFE1460

Country folks say, a pinch of salt is the best season added to good food. Well, I tell you, Lizz Wright is that salt to Jazz. Her rich voice and amazing vocal styling leaves listeners spellbound and speechless. Lizz interpretations of two remakes,Open Your Eyes, You Can Fly and Afro Blue is simply wonderful, these songs become her own. The smooth and soothing movement of this cd reminds you of classic jazz music, you just got to listen again and again. Did I mention, she's beautiful! I recommend this cd.

See where she's at in 10 years.....

5/3/03 9:40 PM (GMT-08:00), by peterRussell

ITS nice to do dishes to, but it doesn't blow me away. Its background music. Dont get me wrong, it's quaint, but not really that special, she needs to grow, she's young so she's got time. Its very "Walt Disney" at times...

Right here, right now, indeed.

Lizz Wright's JazzFest performance was stunning. Can't wait to hear the album. Simply beautiful.

Lizz Wright headlined at the N.O. Jazz and Heritage Festival Today.

No question, one of the best Jazzfest days in recent memory... (Special treat: got to meet and interview the talented vocalist Lizz Wright with my WWOZ associates Tom Morgan and T.R. Johnson. WWOZ broadcasts her performance later on today...www.wwoz.org. Lizz Wright is such a clear thinking and elegantly soulful person.) Lizz Wright. What a performance!!! This talented newcomer put on a clinic out there this afternoon. Totally ego-less music just poured out of her soul. Poise, grace, and a tremendous voice that MOVED everyone there. Stunning interpretations of Afro-Blue and a brave a cappella interpretation of The Nearness of You that went into an incredible vocalese embellishment. Ended the day with a potent rendition of Amazing Grace. Yes, true art and beauty exist right here and now.

I will be in line to buy the album and I know she will have great success. To anyone that is looking for some soulful music i recomend this album.

I am already looking forward to her next CD based on the samples. I feel there is more depth to her voice that right now she is still trying to engage however, the talent is there for her to grow...I would love if she would do a tribute CD to Ella, Sarah, Diana Reeves, Billie, and refine the deeper tones to be richer as Diana Reeves is and Diana Krall which happen to be my two favorite contemporary artists. Keep growing and refining your lovely voice. You are a natural its that the crispness and clarity of depth of your voice did not come through in this CD but with continued work and performing it will become as rich as the Jazz Diva of old. Some enchanted evening...

4/1/03 12:37 AM (GMT-08:00), by michaelfrom0z

I had the pleasure of experiencing the talented Lizz Wright as a special guest of Terence Blanchard at The Orpheum Theater in New Orleans just before Christmas last year. It was a spectacular occasion. Lizz Wright did a special program of Billie Holiday songs. Her presence and presentation was quite stirring. She has that exotic, classic Southern estetic...wine colored evening dress...graceful, yet compelling. A young lady with something to say; feelings to express. Deep, soulful, gospel-tinged blues refined through the jazz idiom in a way that is all class, rare, beautiful and true.

I had opportunity to hear Lizz perform in Toronto at the 2003 International Association of Jazz Educators annual conference. In my opinion, she was the highlight of the conference performance schedule. I was spellbound from the moment she took the stage, and her interpretation of "The Nearness of You" was so spectacular, she literally moved me to tears. I cannot wait to hear more from this extraordinary artist.

Definitely a best of 2003 and beyond....

I had the opportunity to see and hear Lizz Wright perform at the Monterey Jazz Festival last year and I was totally blown away. Her voice, beauty, and stage presence were magnificient. I cannot wait for new album to be released for I know we will definitely hear some wonderful music from this precious gem.

I have admired Lizz Wright ever since I met her in high school, and I've had the privilege of singing with her a few times. Never a day have I not been amazed with her character and talent and integrity. I am thrilled to know that thousands of others will soon be able to hear the vocal stylings and impassioned music of Lizz Wright. I cannot wait to see her on tour when she comes to Cerritos, California.
