These songs are poetry and the performance is perfect, it is so hard to find so much sensitivity in music bussiness today, thank you Lizz for your songs and your voice, this album has been an inspiration for me in this time of my life, I hope you come back to Spain someday, I will be waiting in San Javier Jazz Festival!

Hauntingly Beautiful

9/27/06 2:38 PM (GMT-08:00), by autumneyes

Okay, I am late discovering Ms. Wright, but whoa, I purchased both CD'S at the same time, ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. The legendary jazz singer's Sarah, Billie are beaming down on her with pride. What a VOICE. It warms the soul. The songs "Trouble" , I'm Confessin', Chasing Strange...Whew ! They have just blown me away. Looking forward to seeing her LIVE.

Gorgeous!

I love this CD! Although I prefer the LiPuma production of the last album to Street's here, her voice is so much better on this album - she's singing a little lower and sounds so relaxed and lovely... smokey, shimmery... Her voice on Salt sounded a little strained to me - but this sounds so good! There are some great songs here - I'm Confessin' is a favourite. I've had it on heavy rotation since it's release! A very rewarding album.

Who Sass and Carmen Would be Talking About

11/6/05 4:06 AM (GMT-08:00), by Eljay All

In the past ten years or so there have been many accolades bestowed on young, emerging artists that have been premature. Let it be said that there will be no more Sarah Vaughans, no more Carmen McRaes. And Lizz Wright is not an imitation of the late great ladies of song. Lizz Wright is a direct descendant and an original. Her second effort, "Dreaming Wide Awake" finds her in a place that few young artists find themselves in--getting better with every effort. "Dreaming Wide Awake" departs slightly from her 2003 debut CD "Salt" only in that this second effort is in many ways as much folk oriented as it is jazz embellished. The same smoldering yet understated alto, however, is still here. And at the risk of bestowing too much praise, it should be said that few singers as young as Wright possess the good taste, control and maturity that she has exhibited. No, there are no more Sarah Vaughans and no more Carmen McRaes. But Lizz Wright, as both vo

Saw Lizz in Atlanta

9/19/05 4:28 AM (GMT-08:00), by pam49

My husband and I went to see Lizz at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta on Friday, September 16. I have both of Lizz' CD's and just love her voice and her music, but I was blown away by her earthy, sensual performance. She had the enthusiastic audience eating out of her hand, and -- judging from their response -- I think more than one male in the audience fell in love that night. I hope that Lizz becomes a huge star, not only because she is deserving, but because it would mean that even more of us would enjoy her music. I look forward to more CD's from this special artist, and hope to have the opportunity see her perform live again.

Probably the best album of 2005

9/17/05 7:11 PM (GMT-08:00), by Gliffy

I fell for this album from the very first guitar intro on "A taste of honey". She even outperforms Chet Baker's version of the song from his album "Baby Breeze". It gives some hope for the future that this kind of emotional music still can be produced. I'm really looking forward to ms. Wright's future career.

Wow

9/1/05 5:02 PM (GMT-08:00), by nowphoenix

I sing professionally with an up-and-coming singer named LEDISI. Her voice is from the same heaven that gives us Lizz Wright. I am amazed at her ease of delivery, her tone, her song choices (and some of you STOP COMPLAINING...song choice for a cd is DIFFICULT and extremely PERSONAL...so shut it!) and the obvious love she has for her craft. There's nothing contrived. It feels like she sang these songs after the best cup of tea ever, in a studio with the best view ever, wearing the best cashmere jogging suit ever, after viewing the most beautiful sunrise...EVER. It's just magical. Faves: Hit the Ground Chasing Strange (I've got to find this "Chocolate" dude for my album) Get Together and Old Man All this and I haven't even heard "Salt" yet...can't find it in stores! So frustrating. Lizz, you're a diva...WELCOME!

Un chef d'oeuvre !

8/29/05 4:00 PM (GMT-08:00), by French little guy

After falling in love with "Salt", I just can't manage to stop playing this new album "Dreaming wide awake" again and again. Her voice is even more soft and under control. It brings something new compared to "Salt". The interpretation of "Stop" is just hart-stopping. A real great talent. A diva.

Absolutely Stunning

8/20/05 7:57 PM (GMT-08:00), by bshafer

Earlier this year I stumbled upon a seductive, emotionally stirring album ......... Salt. I have been a fan ever since. Waiting for Lizz Wright to return from Europe was an arduous task though. I had to see if such an amazing vocalist could invoke the same passion that was expressed on the album in a live forum. You see, the litmus test for most vocalists lies in their ability to perform and capture an audience. On the date of August 17th, 2005 in the city of Seattle, Ms. Wright did just that. She drew you into her Music. She experienced it with the audience and choked up many with her stunning, consistent vocals. This young lady is going to leave an indelible mark on music and the people she touches through her music. Her new CD shows her versatility and adaptability in a genre a little south of the Salt CD. Her live performance drives the audience into an emotional frenzy. Thank you, Lizz.

Never thought Lizz could come up with something better than SALT (and the absolutely mesmerizing FIRE song that didn't leave my soul since January 2004...), but my goodness she DID it again!! Since I purchased the new CD 10 days ago, I just can't stop listening to it. especially: "Hit the ground" - "Get together" - "Taste of honey" & "Old man" have touched my heart. But ALL the songs are superb. '"Narrow Daylight" didn't appeal to me at first, but it has really grown on me and is of an indescribable beauty. I'm so glad she will be in Amsterdam/The Netherlands in October. Already got 4 tickets last saturday. (Imagine there was a sudden 45% raise of the ticket-price...???) But I'll be there anyway with my son, my sister and my brother in law. Way to go LIZZ. Keep surprising us with all your different colours and moods. So glad, you had the courage not to stick to one genre.

I absolutely loved Salt. Like many of you I shared this CD with all of my friends and insisted that they buy a copy no burning. Dreaming Wide Awake isn't nearly as fantastic as Salt but it definitely has it's high points. Particularly, When I Close My Eyes, I'm Confessin, and Trouble. Are so sincere. What I love most about Lizz is every word rings so true. If I could sing I would want her voice above all others. In spite of the snooze-factor with regards to the remainder of the CD its still in heavy rotation in my car and at home. She could sing the names out of the telephone book and I'd still be interested.

IF IT WERE NOT FOR HER VOICE I COULD PASS ON THIS CD

7/6/05 10:01 PM (GMT-08:00), by FREELEOSUN

WHAT CAN I SAY? AFTER FALLING IN LOVE WITH THE CD SALT, BUYING IT FOR 5 FRIENDS, AND HAVING THEM TELL OTHERS ABOUT THIS GREAT NEW VOCALIST, LIZZ WRIGHT, I COULD BARELY WAIT FOR THE NEXT PROJECT. I WAS HESITANT AT FIRST WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT CRAIG STREET WAS PRODUCING IT BUT I FIGURED, "HOW BADLY COULD HE MESS THIS CD UP?" WELL THE ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION IS, PRETTY BAD. GOD I LOVED SALT SO MUCH. IT WAS SO VIBRANT AND ALIVE WITH COLOR AND EMOTION. SO MANY OF THE SONGS (FIRE, ETERNITY, BLUE ROSE, IN PARTICULAR)LEFT ME BREATHLESS. THE ONE GLARING MISTAKE THAT WAS MADE ON THIS CD WAS USING CRAIG STREET. THAT MAN AND THAT COUNTRY TWANG SOUND THAT HE IS SO FOUND OF HAS TO BE STOPPED. THAT SOUND WORKED A BIT FOR CASSANDRA WILSON, NOT AT ALL FOR ME'SHELLE, AND NOW HE'S POISONED ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VOICES I'VE HEARD IN A LONG TIME WITH HIS PRODUCTION. THIS WON'T KEEP ME FROM GOING TO HER CONCERTS OR MAKING SURE THAT ANYONE WHO CLAIMS TO LOVE MUSIC OWNS A COPY OF SALT BUT WHEN AS

Upset

I think that I am one of Lizz Wright's biggest fans so I will point my comments towards the producers of these tired and poorly musically inticing joints. They lack (each track) sounds the fucking same it is boring. Where is the climax and the breaks that speeds your heart up and then lets you go to fall in a pool of emotions drowning yourself to death with the food you were just fed. I mean I am at work and I am almost asleep listening to this country melancholy. I mean it is bittersweet alright its sickening and dry. Theres no life here. Lizz sounds like a really drunk Rachelle Ferrell. I want my goddamn money back. Who in the hell was behind this cd a deaf man with no heart beat. I really want you to know because I love her and this is tough love get with me and I will help you become the household name that you deserve. You have Nina Simones gift of haunty range and falseto. What happened to the creativity on this album like the Salt?

I have been looking for the new CD but it isn't being released until the middle of JUNE?? I am leaving the country for six weeks and need it now. Come on verve. Hook me up please. I won't share it with anyone, I promise. I saw Lizz in concert here in Atlanta this past fall. It was fantastic. Please?? This could be considered torture making us wait so long after Salt.

There is absolutely no reason why such an avid couple of fans (myself and my girlfriend) should have to wait until June for such an amazing album. This is torture. Did it get pushed back? We were told May 24! This is madness! We wont stand for this bulls.... wait... You're right. K... I'm calm now. Just gimme the album. Geez!

Her mix of Jazz, Folk, and Spritual make her one of the most dynamic voices in the industry. Can't wait for her upcoming release and an opportunity to see her in Ann Arbor. One of America's best kept secrets. Thanks for autographing CD at Chene Park. Peace Dnomyar
